The Christmas season has a way of flying by, doesn't it? Between decorating, shopping, school activities, and family gatherings, finding time to capture a few beautiful pictures of your family can feel like one more thing on an already overflowing to-do list.
That's exactly why I love Christmas mini sessions!
They're a fun, simple way to capture your family's holiday memories without committing to a full photography session. Whether you're hoping for pictures for your Christmas cards, a thoughtful gift for the grandparents, or updated family portraits, I'd love to help make it happen.
I'm Elizabeth, the photographer behind Elizabeth Fontecchio Design, LLC, and I welcome families from Greensburg, Harrison City, Irwin, Murrysville, Latrobe, and surrounding Westmoreland County communities.
Let's take a look at what you can expect from our Christmas mini sessions this year!
What Is a Christmas Mini Session?
A Christmas mini session is a shorter photography experience offered on select dates with a specially prepared seasonal setting.
Unlike a traditional family portrait session, mini sessions are scheduled in advance with specific time slots and locations. Everything is designed to make the experience convenient for busy families.
You get to enjoy a festive photography experience without spending an entire afternoon in front of the camera.
And if you have young children, you already know that sometimes a shorter session is exactly what everyone needs!

What Should Your Family Wear for Christmas Pictures?
This is probably one of the most common questions I hear before a family photography session!
My biggest suggestion is to coordinate your outfits rather than trying to make everyone match perfectly.
For Christmas pictures, some of my favorite color combinations include:
- Burgundy, cream, and warm beige
- Forest green, ivory, and tan
- Navy blue, gray, and cream
- Soft neutrals with a touch of holiday red
Solid colors photograph beautifully and help keep the focus on your family's faces and expressions.
Rich reds, navy blues, and soft cream colors look especially beautiful against snowy Christmas backdrops, as you can see in this family's portrait!
I'd recommend avoiding busy patterns, large logos, and clothing that feels uncomfortable.
And parents, here's an important tip: make sure the kids can move comfortably! Happy, comfortable children make for much more enjoyable pictures.
Are Christmas Mini Sessions Good for Toddlers and Young Children?
Absolutely!
As a mom of five, I know firsthand that little ones don't always want to sit perfectly still and smile on command.
And that's okay!
My goal is to help everyone feel comfortable while capturing the special connections between you and your family.
Sometimes the sweetest pictures come from a genuine laugh, a quick cuddle, or a little personality shining through.
Mini sessions are short, so I recommend arriving ready for your scheduled time, with everyone dressed and prepared to jump right in.
A little preparation can make a big difference, especially with younger children.
When Should You Schedule Christmas Pictures?
If you're hoping to use your pictures for Christmas cards, earlier is always better!
Ideally, I recommend booking your Christmas pictures as early as July, especially if you have a specific date or time in mind. Planning ahead gives you the best chance of getting the session that works perfectly with your family's busy schedule.
But don't worry if you haven't planned that far ahead! You can always reach out to me to see what dates and times are still available. I'd love to help you find something that works!
Remember that after your photography session, you'll still need time for picture selection, editing and gallery delivery, card ordering, printing, shipping, and mailing.
A November session generally gives you more breathing room than a December session.
Our advertised 2026 seasonal mini events run through December 5, but booking availability and turnaround times should always be confirmed before making time-sensitive holiday plans.
And even if you aren't planning to mail Christmas cards this year, holiday portraits make wonderful gifts and keepsakes.

Let's Capture Some Christmas Memories!
The holiday season goes by so quickly, and our children seem to grow even faster.
One of the things I love most about being a photographer is helping families preserve these little moments before they become treasured memories.
Whether it's your baby's first Christmas, an updated family portrait, or a yearly tradition, I'd love to be part of your family's holiday season.
I can't wait to see you in front of my camera!
With love,
Elizabeth
